8 july, kathmandu- Nepal secured its place in the final of the ACC U-19 Eastern Region Cricket Tournament going on in Malaysia. The Nepali squad defeated the host in the semifinal match held today at Kinrara Academy Oval Cricket Stadium based in Kuala Lumpur by seven wickets.
Nepal will now face either Singapore or Hong Kong for the title. Nepal, the present champion, met a simple target of 88 runs posted by the competitor in 15.5 overs at the loss of three wickets. Nepal’s Bhim Sarki contributed unbeaten 33 runs to the team while captain Rohit Kumar Poudel played 32 not out. Similarly, Pawan Sarraff made 18 runs and Rit Gautam added three runs to the team.
Prior to this, Malaysia was put to bat first after losing the toss and was limited to 87 runs in 40.5 overs at the loss of all wickets. In course of restricting the competitor to a simple run setting, Nepal’s Sagar Dhakal alone took three wickets and Kushal Malla took two wickets. A team winning the title will be qualified for competing for the U-19 Asia Cup scheduled in Sri Lanka. The final match has been scheduled for Tuesday. (RSS)
