16 june, Lamki- The Janaki rural municipality of Kailali has begun a training to make sanitary pads for women in the rural municipality. The training has been organised to promote menstrual hygiene and also help them save money in the purchase of sanitary pads.
The rural women cannot afford expensive sanitary pad and this training will also help them become aware of personal hygiene during the menstrual period, rural municipality Chair Pradip Chaudhary said.
Vice-chair Uma Mahato said following the training the rural municipality will also support women who want to make making sanitary pad as a business. We would first want to promote the habit of using sanitary pads and will invest in entrepreneurship related to it as well, she said.
Hima Mahat, one of the trainees, said she will now be sharing her skills to other women in the village as well. “We gained knowledge about personal hygiene as well as the skills to make sanitary pad,” she said.
A total of 140 women had taken part in the nine-day long training.(RSS)
