4 june, Tokyo- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 struck Japan’s Torishima Island region, the weather agency said Tuesday.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the temblor struck at 1:40 p.m. local time at a latitude of 29.1 degrees north and a longitude of 139.8 degrees east.
The offshore quake occurred at a depth of 440 km the JMA also said. On Japan’s seismic scale which peaks at 7, the quake registered 4 in Ogasawara and a village in the subprefecture that is governed by Tokyo on the mainland more than 1,000 km away.There have been no immediate reports of major damage or injuries as a result of the offshore quake, and no tsunami warning has been issued by the JMA.
